11 December 2020, Index number: ASA 13/3407/2020
December 2020 marks 23 years since the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT)
Peace Accord came into effect. Amnesty International calls on the
Bangladesh authorities to fully implement its human rights provisions. The
Peace Accord, negotiated against the backdrop of nearly two decades of
armed conflict that killed thousands of people and displaced many more,
was signed in 1997 between the Government of Bangladesh and the
Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) – the political
organization representing the Indigenous peoples living in the CHT region.
