Reports are coming in of yet another attack on a ISKCON temple in Bangladesh. This time the ISKCON Radhakanta temple in Dhaka was attacked by a large Muslim mob who beat up Hindu devotees. Three Hindus have reportedly suffered injuries. Incidentally, the Hindu festival of Holi and the Islamic festival of Shab-e-Barat fall on the same day.
A statement by Hindu American Foundation (HAF) said that on March 17th at 8pm nearly 150 Muslimperpetrators, led by one Haji Shafiullah, attacked the ISKCON temple at 22 Lalmohon Saha Street of Wari
Thana in Dhaka, Bangladesh. They vandalized the temple, murti, and looted money and other valuable things. At least 3 Hindu devotees were injured during this attack.
Responding to these reports HAF Director of Human Rights Deepali Kulkarni stated:
“The week before Hindus all over the world are commemorating the 51st anniversary of those who were killed, displaced, and raped during the Bengali Hindu Genocide in Bangladesh, extremists remind us that the genocide has ramifications even today.”
Hindu activists shared videos apparently showing the mob that attacked the temple, chanting Islamic slogans ‘Nar-e-Takbeer, Allah-o-Akbar’ Per Google maps, the ISKCON Radhakanta temple is in close proximity to several masjids.
ISKCON temples had also come under attack during the anti-Hindu pogrom during Durga Puja last year that was triggered when a Muslim man placed a Quran at the feet of a Sri Hanuman murti in a Durga Puja pandal in Cumilla. Hundreds of pandals, Hindu temples, homes, shops were vandalised or burnt, and at least 10 Hindus were killed.
There were reports of horrible rapes as well, such as the gang rape of 3 women from different generations of the same family, in which a 10-year-old Hindu girl died – this news was not only shared by reliable social media handles but reported by Channel I News of Bangladesh as well. However, shortly after the broadcast of this news, it was edited and the mention of the minor’s death was expunged from the video, allegedly due to pressure from Bangladeshi authorities.
The Bangladesh government tried to brush that horrific pogrom under the carpet with Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen claiming ‘cookedup’ stories are being spread to embarrass the Sheikh Hasina government.
